Academia Iuvenum was established by the Rector and is one of the elements of the activities of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology aimed at promoting scientific excellence at the university.
The overriding goal of the project is to select and support the development of a group of outstanding young scientists in various scientific disciplines. The purpose of Academia Iuvenum is also to act as a platform for interdisciplinary intellectual exchange.

Terms of Academia Iuvenum
The term of office of a memeber of the Academy begins on October 1 and lasts for two academic years.
Membership of the Academy in a given year is open to academic staff employed at the University on a full-time basis financed in whole or in part by subsidy, who meet the following conditions jointly:
- obtained a doctoral degree no later than one year and no earlier than 7 years to the date of start of the term of office*;
- do not have a degree of doktor habilitowany or equivalent qualifications;
- submitted a statement in a given year authorizing the University to include them in the number N of employees conducting scientific activity in the discipline for which the University has a scientific discipline council;
- have significant achievements in the scientific discipline they represent;
- are not currently members of the Academy.
* In the case of an employee taking full-time maternity and parental leave, the period limit of 7 years is increased by 1 year for each born or adopted child for whom the leave was granted after obtaining a doctorate.
Nomination of candidates and method of selecting members
- Candidates for members of the Academy are selected by the councils of scientific disciplines from among those who have submitted the application form, based on the scientific achievements and research plans described therein.
- Every year, the Rector determines the maximum number of candidates for a member of the Academy that may be proposed by each discipline council.
- The Rector's Committee for Scientific Awards creates a ranking list from among the candidates presented by the councils of scientific disciplines, taking into account the information contained in the application forms, and then decides on the final list of new members of Academia Iuvenum by voting by an absolute majority of votes.
Privileges granted to members of the Academy during their term of office
- Reducing the teaching load to 120 calculation hours per year in connection with the performance of important tasks for the University;
- Academia Iuvenum salary supplement in the amount of 50% of the minimum basic salary of an assistant professor specified in generally applicable law;
- Access to a dedicated training program supporting the development of scientific excellence;
- Support in terms of participation in conferences and scientific schools, trips for research internships, contacts with other research centers;
- The right to consult and present the opinions of young scholars of the University.
Duties of the Academy members
- Present a seminar on the research work, at least once during the term of office;
- Participate in seminars and other scientific events organized or recommended by the Academy (e.g. Interdisciplinary Scientific Seminar of Wrocław University of Science and Technology);
- Participate in training and workshops offered to members of the Academy;
- Participate in the life of the Academy, e.g. in meetings, elections, giving opinions and preparing documents;
- At the end of the term of office, submit a written report to the Rector's Committee for Scientific Awards describing the development of career and the research completed.
Calendar:
- Announcement of the maximum number of candidates in given disciplines for new members of the Academy - by April 30**;
- Submission of application forms to the discipline councils to the address dzial.nauki@pwr.edu.pl by persons applying for admission to the Academy - by April 30**;
- Selection of candidates by scientific discipline councils - by May 20**;
- Selection of new members of the Academy by the Rector's Committee for Scientific Awards - by June 10**;
- Appointment by the Rector - until June 15**;
- Beginning of the term of office of the Academy - October 1.
